Tonight is Bogie’s night.

Bogdan Trineyev, the best number 87 in all of hockey, will make his NHL debut against the Winnipeg Jets after becoming one of the Hershey Bears’ best and most dependable players. The Russian right winger is replacing Sonny Milano in the lineup and will skate with Nic Dowd and Brandon Duhaime on the fourth line.

“He’s kinda been patiently waiting for an opportunity to get into the lineup,” Spencer Carbery said after the morning skate. “He will tonight, and that’s a lifelong goal of his, so just go out there and be yourself. Go compete your butt off, don’t worry about making mistakes. Just go and be yourself, play your game.”

Logan Thompson will get the start for the Capitals in net and oppose reigning Vezina Trophy-winner, Connor Hellebuyck, in net.

Puck drop for today’s game is scheduled for a little after 7:00 pm as the Jets are celebrating Nino Niederreiter’s 1,000th career game. He’s the first Swiss player in NHL history to reach the milestone. Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin have the call on Monumental Sports Network.

Puck is dropped. Beauvillier-Strome-Ovechkin and Sandin-TVR get the start.

First shift, Bogdan Trineyev wins a puck battle in neutral ice showing some great speed.

Mark Scheifele to the box for high-sticking Matt Roy at 6:50. Caps get the first power play of the game.

Josh Morrissey shoots the puck hard off the end boards, right to to Logan Stanley crashing the net, who chips the puck over Thompson. Pretty play.

🚨

1-0 Winnipeg Jets

Goal: Logan Stanley (5). Assists: J. Morrissey (22), M. Scheifele (23). Time: 9:13

Coming into tonight, the Capitals had scored first in 12 of the last 13 games per Joe B.

Jonathan Toews high-sticks Connor McMichael as he blazes into the zone wide open for a potential partial breakaway at 9:59.

Justin Sourdif is getting second-unit power-play time now.

Jets have 8 of the first 10 shots of the game through 16 minutes.

Barron tips in a great pass from Adam Lowry that beats Thompson through the body and over the pad.

🚨

2-0 Winnipeg Jets

Goal: Morgan Barron (5). Assists: A. Lowry (3), A. Iafallo (6). Time: 18:43

At intermission: Yikes! Caps losing 2-0 sure, but I’m more worried about the three total shots in the period.

2nd Period

Puck is dropped.

Justin Sourdif, great deflection goal, just into his own net.

🚨

3-0 Winnipeg Jets

Goal: Alex Iafallo (6). Assists: A. Lowry (4). Time: 3:39

John Carlson to the box for tripping Nino Niederreiter at 5:52. Jets get their first power play.

Caps kill the power play.

The Caps just have nothing for the Jets tonight.

Jets take another high-sticking call, this time Morgan Barron gets Rasmus Sandin at 16:18.

Ovechkin and Chychrun fail to connect at the point and the Jets nearly get a 2-on-0 breakaway.

Caps give up a legit 2-on-1 shorthanded. Thompson turns away two chances.

Nic Dowd to the box for cross-checking Mark Scheifele at 19:24.

Jets score on a slam dunk in front of the net after a beautiful passing play.

🚨

4-0 Winnipeg Jets

PPG: Gabriel Vilardi (15). Assists: K. Connor (24), J. Morrissey (23). Time: 19:53

At intermission: 🙁

3rd Period

Puck is dropped.

Thompson with a huge save on Namestikov on a two-on-one one-timer.

Thompson stops Kyle Connor on a breakaway.

John Carlson with one of those John Carlson penalties. He tried a lob pass to Alex Ovechkin into the offensive zone from the defensive zone and that’s a delay of game penalty. Awareness: 0.

Jets hit the post on a redirect by Scheifele.

This power play is a shooting gallery for the Jets.

Turnover, another pretty passing play, and Vilardi scores again.

🚨

5-0 Winnipeg Jets

Goal: Gabriel Vilardi (16). Assists: K. Connor (25), M. Scheifele (24). Time: 11:55

Gabriel Vilardi to the box for tripping Dylan Strome at 14:49.

Caps execute an indirect pass off the boards springing Wilson on a partial breakaway. He’s immediately tripped by Luke Schenn at 15:30. They get over a minute of 5v3 power-play time.

Chychrun ends the shutout with a one-timer from the right circle. He has 7 goals in his last 12 games. Crazy.

🚨

5-1 Winnipeg Jets

PPG: Jakob Chychrun (12). Assists: J. Carlson (18), A. Ovechkin (17). Time: 16:32

Capitals lose 5-1 to the Jets.
