Alex Ovechkin hit another big round number milestone in the Washington Capitals’ 3-2 shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ovechkin recorded the primary assist on Connor McMichael’s second-period breakaway goal, marking the 1,653rd regular-season point of his career. Combined with his scoring in the playoffs, Ovechkin now has 1,800 points.

According to NHL Stats, Ovechkin is the 11th player in league history to reach the mark, joining eight other Hockey Hall of Famers and Jaromir Jagr and Sidney Crosby, who are still playing.

To reach 1,800 points, Ovechkin has registered 988 goals and 812 assists in the regular season and playoffs combined. The 988 goals are second only to Wayne Gretzky’s 1,016. Ovechkin just needs 39 more goals to pass The Great One.
