Tonight, your Washington Capitals will take on the San Jose Sharks and see some familiar faces on the backend. Vincent Iorio will play his first game against the Caps since getting claimed by the Sharks earlier this year, as well as 2018 Stanley Cup champion, Dmitry Orlov.

The Sharks have a bunch of young talent. Keep an eye on forwards Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini, who are having huge years.

Justin Sourdif and John Carlson are both missing tonight’s game due to injury. In goal, the Capitals will turn to Charlie Lindgren in net and he’ll face Yaroslav Askarov on San Jose’s end.

Puck drop for today’s game is scheduled for a little after 10:00 pm. Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin have the call on Monumental Sports Network. Caps have won 8 of their last 9 overall coming into tonight.

1st Period

Puck is dropped. Leonard-Dowd-Frank and Fehervary-Sandin get the start for the Caps.

Anthony Beauvillier stopped on a semi-breakaway. Beauvillier then takes a hooking penalty on John Klingberg as the play transitions out of the offensive zone. The Sharks get their first power play at the 5:00 mark.

Caps kill the power play.

Alex Ovechkin scores career goal 910 on Yaroslav Askarov. Great work down low to pot the rebound.

Ovi has 9 goals, 7 assists, and 16 points in the last 9 games.

We got another, Chisholm finds Milano in the left circle for a layup.

Sharks are challenging for goaltender interference. Hendrix Lapierre was in the paint and had his left skate against Askarov, but the referees ruled it legal.

Capitals go to the power play for a failed challenge at 10:05.

Sharks nearly score shorthanded after a bad turnover by Alex Ovechkin.

Ryan Leonard, with some great patience, beat Askarov on a wrister. Caps are pouring it on.

Beauvillier to the box for the second time in the period for tripping Philipp Kurashev at 15:48.

2nd Period

Puck is dropped.

Leonard gets feisty in the corner, and he draws another penalty. Mario Ferraro roughs him at 0:59.

And Ovi scores on the power play, after a great set up feed by, you guessed it, Ryan Leonard! That’s career goal no. 911.

Both teams are kinda playing this one out at this point.

Puck is dropped.

JFC Ryan Leonard with an incredible drive down the left wing. He’s got four points tonight.

Nic Dowd to the box for holding Philipp Kurashev at 4:05.

Sonny Milano to the box for tripping Dmitry Orlov at 11:36.

Dmitry Orlov bombs one from the point on the power play and it hits Pavol Regenda on the way in. Lindgren was bumped into by Regenda after the puck crossed the line.

The Capitals are challenging the goal for goaltender interference to keep Lindgren’s shutout intact.
