The Washington Capitals were without Dylan Strome for most of Saturday’s game against the Ottawa Senators.

Strome was injured 3:34 into the first period as he skated toward the end boards during a Capitals power play. The first-line center got tripped by Senators defenseman Artem Zub and was fallen on top of by Jakob Chychrun as they both collided into the boards.

After lying on the ice for about a minute, Strome was helped off the ice by John Carlson and Chychrun while favoring his left leg.

Strome returned to the game with 7:57 remaining in the period, but only managed to take two more shifts. During his final jaunt on the ice, Strome lost an offensive zone faceoff and looked uncomfortable skating, leaving after only 8 seconds. He went directly to the bench with 5:35 left in the first and then departed down to the locker room.

Strome was then ruled out for the rest of the game at the start of the second period. He played only 2 minutes and 34 seconds.

Strome has 10 points (2g, 8a) in the Capitals’ first 9 games of the season, ranking second only to Tom Wilson on the team.

Defenseman Matt Roy also left the game just a couple minutes into the first period after he took a puck to the face. He left a visible trail of blood as he skated to the bench and went down the tunnel for repairs. Roy later returned in the same period.

Update: Spencer Carbery spoke to reporters post-game on Dylan Strome’s status.
