Alex Ovechkin is one of the biggest stars in NHL history. But that status has never changed who he is: a pretty normal dude.
Ovechkin wears Nike shirts off the ice and pairs his Subway and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos with a six pack of beer on the team plane. He loves carbs and drinks soda on the bench during games. He’s also a little less refined in other ways.
The latest example is a mic’d-up clip the Capitals posted on social media from its game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. The video features Ovechkin barking like a dog.
“YEAH!!!!!” Oveckin screams excitedly at something out of frame. “Woof woof woof woof.”
One assumes the salute is for fourth-line winger, Brandon “Doggie” Duhaime, who, if you stop the frame at the final second, skates fully into view.
The Capitals have been barking since October 2024 because Duhaime got that dawg in him.
And that’s just another endearing thing about this team.
