Andrew Cristall is a fan of his new nickname “Loaf.”

Speaking on the moniker for the first time, Cristall confirmed RMNB reporting that Loaf came from Tom Wilson last year due to his giftedness in the follicle game.

“Honestly, I think it started like last year,” Cristall said. “I think Willy just like, I had some good flow going last year and Willy called me that one time and kind of stuck on with him.”

Cristall first realized this nickname would now be canon with Capitals fans when the team took it public on social media.

“I saw that when they posted that goal (against Columbus on Tuesday) it said loaf,” Cristall said. “I thought it was kind of funny. Taking a couple chirps for it now, but I think it’s pretty funny.”

Cristall’s last name doesn’t lend itself well to a classic hockey nickname especially when shortened with an i-e ending. Meanwhile, his junior nickname, “AC”, didn’t seem enough for this Capitals locker room.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s a little bit more creative so I like it,” Cristall said. “It’s something new. I haven’t ever been called that. So it’s been kind of funny.”

RMNB is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHLPA, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
