The Washington Capitals are headed out on the road for their third game of the preseason. The Caps will take on the New Jersey Devils at 3 pm Sunday afternoon.
Despite further cuts to the team’s training camp roster on Saturday morning, the Capitals will still feature a mix of prospects and NHL veterans against the Devils.
Just as in the two previous preseason games, a few members of the Capitals’ NHL roster from last season are set to make their exhibition debuts: Pierre-Luc Dubois, Jakob Chychrun, and Charlie Lindgren. Lindgren served as Clay Stevenson’s backup in Hershey on Thursday night but did not see any time in net.
Capitals prospects Terik Parascak, Patrick Thomas, and Cam Allen will feature in their first games this fall. At the same time, head coach Spencer Carbery will get another look at Ryan Leonard, Andrew Cristall, Justin Sourdif, Henrik Rybinski, Ilya Protas, Eriks Mateiko, and Bogdan Trineyev.
Alex Ovechkin will not be making the trip up with the Capitals as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury. Carbery confirmed again on Saturday that he’d like to see Ovechkin play in two preseason games ahead of Opening Night against the Boston Bruins on October 8.
The lineup against the Devils all practiced together in Group A at camp on Saturday, with Carbery running the players through line rushes.

Sunday’s matchup will be televised on Monumental Sports Network and NHL Network. All other Capitals players not involved in the game will practice and scrimmage at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
The Capitals are 2-0 and have outscored their opponents 10-3 through the first two games of the preseason.
