After their 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night, the Washington Capitals immediately flew from Long Island to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ahead of what ended up being a busy Wednesday.
Shortly after noon, the Capitals announced they re-signed Nic Dowd to a two-year contract extension — with Spencer Carbery appearing to tell the team during a morning film session. The Caps then took the ice at PPG Paints Arena for a 1 pm practice.
After their skate, a group of Capitals players went out Wednesday night to take in the Washington Nationals-Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park. 106.7 The Fan’s Grant Paulsen posted a screenshot of the Capitals sitting in a luxury box during the game.
Dylan Strome, Nic Dowd (I think?), Andrew Mangiapane, Connor McMichael, Dylan McIlrath, Taylor Raddysh, and Ryan Leonard can all be spotted taking in the game with beverages either near them or actively being consumed. Pierre-Luc Dubois, known lover of vintage hats, rocks a Pittsburgh Pirates lid which is fine, I guess, and better than that one time Brooks Orpik wore Pittsburgh gear to his opening Capitals press conference.
Other members of the Capitals organization were in attendance including noted baseball fan and Capitals radio voice John Walton, who was joined by his fellow media cohorts.
The Capitals crew also got to see a benches clearing… discussion on the field.
Looks like an amazing time. Hopefully they got a glimpse of the Pirates Pierogies as well.

The Capitals play the Pittsburgh Penguins in their 2024-25 regular-season finale at PPG Paints Arena on Thursday night.
