Alex Ovechkin, noted fan of beer, likely had the aroma of a frat house after tying Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record during Friday’s Capitals-Blackhawks game.

Just like the Capitals did after Ovechkin scored career goal number 800, the team gave their captain a beer bath once he was done tearing up in an emotional post-game interview with Al Koken on the Capitals’ bench.

The Capitals’ exuberant celebration was so epic it appeared to cause some type of lighting malfunction in the locker room. As they dumped cans of Stella Artois over Ovechkin, the room turned mostly dark.

The beer bath ended with the team chanting, “Hey! Hey!” Hey!” and players jumping up and down together with Ovechkin in a big mob of hockey-playing humanity.

“Jesus!” Ovechkin said, squinting as he wiped the beer out of his eyes.

“Babe, take a sip, man,” John Carlson said.

“I need a towel,” Ovechkin replied. “Best shower of my life.”
