Ryan Leonard and Cole Hutson were named to the 2024-25 All-Hockey East First Team on Friday morning. The two top Washington Capitals prospects were voted onto the team by the conference’s 11 head coaches.
Leonard, joined by three of his Boston College teammates, was one of two unanimous selections to the First Team. The 20-year-old winger finished as the conference’s regular season scoring champion with 37 points (25g, 12a) in 24 games during league play.
The 2023 first-round draft pick also led the conference in goals (25), point-per-game rate (1.54), shots (116), and game-winning goals (8).
Hutson, the lone freshman selected to the First Team, finished his first college hockey campaign as the top scoring defenseman in the conference with 29 points (8g, 21a) in 24 games. He was the highest-scoring freshman overall, finishing seven points ahead of teammate Cole Eiserman.
The 18-year-old blueliner was also named to Hockey East’s All-Rookie Team. Per BU, Hutson joined his brother Lane as the only defensemen since 2005-06 to record at least 10 goals and 25 assists in their first 33 career games.
Leonard and Hutson will both be back on the ice for conference tournament action on Saturday.
Leonard’s no. 1 seeded Eagles will play no. 9 seeded Northeastern University in their quarterfinal matchup. Hutson’s no. 3 seeded Terriers will square off with no. 6 seeded Massachusetts.
