Ryan Leonard was awarded the Hockey East scoring title and the Three Stars Award on Wednesday.
Leonard recorded 37 points (25g, 12a) in 24 conference games to win the scoring championship. He finished four points ahead of second place, Connecticut’s Hudson Schandor.
The top Washington Capitals prospect also led conference play in goals (25), point-per-game rate (1.54), shots (116), and game-winning goals (8).
The Three Stars Award is presented annually to the player with the highest number of points assigned to being named one of the three stars in each game. Players receive five points for being named First Star, three points for Second Star, and one point for Third Star.
Leonard is the eighth player from Boston College to be bestowed the award and the first since Marc McLaughlin won it after the 2020-21 regular season. His older brother John Leonard also won the award in 2020 for Massachusetts. Other previous winners include Macklin Celebrini, Lane Hutson, Clayton Keller, Jack Eichel, and Brian Gionta.
The 20-year-old winger is riding a 14-game point streak into Hockey East tournament play, where BC has an immediate bye into the quarterfinals as the top seed. The Eagles await the lowest advancing seed from the opening round.
Leonard will likely sign his entry-level contract with the Capitals whenever BC’s postseason ends. Capitals general manager Chris Patrick revealed last week that the team factored Leonard’s possible NHL cap hit into their trade deadline plans.
