The Washington Capitals will battle the Seattle Kraken on Sunday in their last home game before heading out west for three in a row in California. The Caps shut Seattle out 3-0 in their prior meeting this season on January 23.
Anthony Beauvillier will make his Capitals debut after being acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins at the trade deadline. Caps head coach Spencer Carbery shared pregame what he’s expecting to see from the 27-year-old winger.
“Just his identity, and that’s him moving his feet, playing with pace, competing on pucks,” Carbery said. “Not too worried about the structure part of it and some of the details, although he plays with details, so he should be in good shape there. So realistically, just some pace and competing on pucks.”
Beauvillier had his first practice with the Capitals on Saturday morning, where he skated on the team’s fourth line with Nic Dowd and Brandon Duhaime. He has 20 points (13g, 7a) in 63 games this season with Pittsburgh.
Projected lines
Charlie Lindgren will make his 29th start of the season and second against Seattle. Lindgren stopped all 22 shots he faced against the Kraken in Seattle. The 31-year-old netminder is 14-10-3 on the season with a 2.66 goals-against average, a .897 save percentage, and one shutout.
Seattle comes into Sunday’s game out of the playoff picture in the Western Conference, 12 points behind the Calgary Flames for the second wild card playoff spot. They have won just four of their last 10 and will be playing the back half of a back-to-back after beating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 on Saturday.
