The Washington Capitals played the Winnipeg Jets to a very entertaining 4-4 draw after regulation only to fall early in another overtime. The unfortunate end put a slight damper on what was a great comeback effort from the Caps.
Forget the rematch in March, I’d like to see this one again in June.

- The Capitals weren’t on the ice for the first period. They recorded just 10 shot attempts, two scoring chances, and one high-danger chance at five-on-five in the opening frame. Thankfully, they turned things around and controlled the majority of the play from then on. Unfortunately, a few individual errors led directly to Winnipeg goals. Otherwise, I think the Caps actually win this game in regulation. They recorded 23 shots in the final 41:57 of the game after putting up just six shots in the first.
- Alex Ovechkin scored his 24th goal of the season to tie the game 4-4 and earn the Capitals a standings point. The marker was the 877th of his career and he is just 18 goals away from surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s all-time-best mark of 894.
- As we all expected in a Capitals game with four goals, Matt Roy led the team in scoring with three assists. The random scoring explosion was Roy’s first-ever three-point game. He recorded 20 percent of his total points this season (15) in this game.
Dylan Strome tallied his team-leading 35th assist of the season on Washington's third goal, extending his point streak to three games (3g-1–4p). Strome (15g-35a–50p) has reached the 50-point mark for the fourth time in his career (2023-24: 67p; 2022-23: 65p; 2018-19: 57p).

- The Capitals were at their best five-on-five with Ethen Frank on the ice. They scored two goals and saw positive differentials in shot attempts (+5), scoring chances (+1), and high-danger chances (+3). Pretty sure Frank’s here to stay, and I believe that spells bad news for Jakub Vrana once we get closer to the trade deadline.
- Of course, in a game involving Logan Thompson and Connor Hellebuyck, the two Vezina Trophy favorites, the two teams combined for nine goals. Per MoneyPuck, Thompson gave up 1.29 more goals than expected, and Hellebuyck gave up 1.55 more than expected.
- Pierre-Luc Dubois scored his fifth goal in his last seven games. Per the team, the goal extended his point streak to four games. It is his fourth point streak of four or more games this season.
