The Washington Capitals’ offense has disappeared lately, but the schedule makers may have found their tonic. The lowly Anaheim Ducks are in town, sporting the fifth-worst record in the Western Conference and surrendering the twelfth-most goals (135) in the NHL.

Spencer Carbery gave the lines a total makeover, most notably centering Pierre-Luc Dubois with Alex Ovechkin. Logan Thompson will once again jump in goal with Charlie Lindgren out due to injury. He’ll oppose John Gibson in net.

The Capitals-Ducks game is airing on Monumental Sports Network. Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin have the call. Puck drop is at 7:00 pm. It’s Capitals’ Canines Night.

Logan Thompson stops a two-on-one.

🚨 1-0 Washington Capitals. WSH Goal: Brandon Duhaime (5). Assists: J. Chychrun (18), N. Dowd (6). Time: 07:34.

Capitals score again with Ethen Frank on the ice. Either Frank or Chychrun (scorers believe Chychrun) hit a rebound, which deflected off Duhaime’s back boot ever so slightly.

🚨 2-0 Washington Capitals. WSH Goal: John Carlson (4). Unassisted. Time: 14:30.

Carlson skates down broadway and goes bardown over Gibson’s left shoulder.

On his next shift, Carlson hits the post and out with a point shot.

At intermission: The Capitals are leading 2-0. They hit double digits in shots too, 12 to 9. The Capitals dominated at five-on-five, out-attempting 29 to 14.

Ducks controlling play early, but nothing getting on net.

Brett Leason to the box for hooking Dylan Strome at 7:14.

Halfway through the period, the Capitals are wrestling back possession. PLD has two chances – one hits Gibson’s helmet; the other hits the post.

The Ducks still don’t have a shot this period 11 minutes in.

Dylan Strome dives to break up a two-on-none break for the Ducks.

Logan Thompson stops Ryan Strome on a two-on-one.

🚨 3-0 Washington Capitals. WSH Goal: Ethen Frank (2). Assists: P. Dubois (27), B. Duhaime (7). Time: 19:01.

At intermission: The Capitals are outshooting the Ducks 18 to 11, but that was another one of those molasses periods where they didn’t have much offense, generating only six shots. Meanwhile, the Ducks had 2. The Capitals are out-attempting the Ducks 45 to 28 at five-on-five.

3rd Period

Puck is dropped.

Logan Thompson makes another huge save on a two-on-one, this time getting his glove on a wide-open Isac Lundestrom with his glove.

Caps win 3-0. Capitals outshoot the Ducks 25 to 18.

Caps beat Ducks 3-0, Logan Thompson earns the Caps’ first shutout of the season
