The Washington Capitals are throwing on their best black threads for Black Friday and will look to defeat the New York Islanders at home after two games away. Some great Black Friday online merch deals are here for the record.
Taylor Raddysh will skate on the first line with Alex Ovechkin out for a fifth-straight game and Logan Thompson will return to net.
The Capitals-Islanders game is airing on Monumental Sports Network. Our favorite turkeys, Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin, have the call. Puck drop is shortly after 3:00 pm.

1st Period
Puck is dropped.
🚨 1-0 New York Islanders. NYI Goal: Simon Holmstrom (4). Assists: A. Lee (7). Time: 03:36.
Holmstrom’s shot ramped up off Sandin’s blade and beat Thompson to the top corner.
🚨 1-1 tie. WSH Goal: Nic Dowd (6). Assists: I. Miroshnichenko (1), B. Duhaime (4). Time: 04:50.
Dowd skates around the net, takes a great pass from Miroshnichenko at the left post, and slides the puck past Semyon Varlamov on his backhand.
According to Monumental Sports Network, the Capitals have scored the next goal 57.6 percent of the time after an opponent has registered a goal — the highest mark in the NHL this season. This suggests good coaching.
🚨 2-1 Washington Capitals. WSH PPG: Tom Wilson (6). Assists: C. McMichael (8), D. Strome (25). Time: 12:10.
Some beautiful passing from Dylan Strome and Connor McMichael give Tom Wilson a gimme goal from the bumper spot. Wilson’s now got goals in two straight.
At intermission: Capitals lead 2-1. The Islanders outshot the Capitals 13 to 12 but Washington is out-attempting them 18 to 10 at 5v5.
2nd Period
Puck is dropped.
🚨 2-2 tie. NYI Goal: Anders Lee (9). Assists: N. Dobson (9). Time: 01:15.
Lee redirects a Dobson shot that was going at least 5-feet wide, and somehow manages to send it past Thompson on almost on angle. Wow.
🚨 3-2 Washington Capitals. WSH Goal: John Carlson (9). Assists: M. Fehervary (5), D. Strome (26). Time: 14:05.
Fehervary’s shot hit Poluck’s butt and went right to Carlson on the doorstep. Carlson now has goals in back-to-back games.
The Islanders are challenging Carlson’s goal for goaltender interference. Hendrix Lapierre was in the crease. Varlamov pushed off Lapierre to try and make the save on Carlson. Varly made the contact.
Carlson’s goal is ruled no goal due to goalie interference. This is the third goal Carlson has lost this season. Here’s more about the previous two.
🚨 3-2 New York Islanders. NYI Goal: Kyle MacLean (1). Assists: B. Horvat (11), A. Lee (8). Time: 16:28.
A Protas turnover in the defensive zone turns into an Isles goal.
🚨 4-2 New York Islanders. NYI Goal: Simon Holmstrom (5). Assists: D. Cholowski (3), B. Horvat (12). Time: 18:09.
Looks like a double deflection that eludes Thompson.
At intermission: The Islanders lead the Capitals 4-2 after scoring three times in the second period. The Islanders outshot the Capitals 21 to 17 but Washington is out-attempting them 31 to 25 at 5v5.
3rd Period
Puck is dropped. The Islanders have given up three goals in the third period in each of their last two games.
Anders Lee hooks Connor McMichael on the opening faceoff. Caps to an important power play here.
🚨 4-3 New York Islanders. WSH PPG: Dylan Strome (8). Assists: J. Chychrun (7), C. McMichael (9). Time: 01:20.
Strome scores top shelf short side on Varlamov as the Islanders’ PK’ers sag way too much.
🚨 4-4 tie. WSH Goal: Tom Wilson (7). Assists: T. van Riemsdyk (11), C. McMichael (10). Time: 07:24.
Tom Wilson scores from the left circle on a one-timer like he’s freaking Ovi. What a pass by TVR.
Fehervary hustles back and lifts Wahlstrom’s stick to negate a breakaway.
Mayfield takes a shot from Chychrun off his face shield and he’s bleeding from the nose. He’s off the ice and down to the locker room.
Nic Dowd takes a slashing penalty with 4:50 remaining.
Caps kill the penalty.
Third period ends in a 4-4 tie.
At the end of regulation: The Capitals outshot the Islanders 25 to 24 and out-attempted them 43 to 33 at five-on-five.
Overtime
🚨 5-4 Washington Capitals. WSH OTGWG: Jakob Chychrun (7). Assists: D. Strome (26), J. Carlson (13). Time: 01:20.
Chychrun just skates up and scores. What an electric goal.
Capitals win 5-4.
