Ryan Leonard sets new career-best goal-scoring streak, tallying twice in Boston College win over Northeastern

Ryan Leonard is the hottest he has ever been in his college career with the Boston College Eagles.

The 19-year-old winger scored two goals against Northeastern on Friday night, giving him markers in five straight games — the longest goal-scoring streak of his NCAA career.

Leonard’s two goals helped the no. 3 ranked Eagles take down the unranked Huskies, 3-0. He has seven goals during this five-game streak.

The streak-extending goal came 4:18 into the first period as Leonard and Gabe Perreault completed a 2-on-1, give-and-go play. The goal also stood up as the game-winner, giving Leonard four game-winning goals in his last five games and five total on the season.

Leonard did have an injury scare in the game as he hobbled to the bench in the final minute of the second period with an apparent left leg injury. He took the ice for the start of the third period though and scored his second goal of the game, a laser wrister just 1:07 into the final frame.

Although he missed no time in the game with the injury, BC head coach Greg Brown confirmed the ailment in his postgame press conference.

“He has a little leg injury, but nothing too serious,” Brown told The Heights’ Luke Evans. “When he catches it you can tell, but he should be okay.”

Leonard has 10 goals in 11 games this season, tying him with Denver’s Sam Harris for the NCAA lead. His 16 points (10g, 6a) are tied for the fifth most in the nation.

The Washington Capitals top prospect has 41 total goals in his 52-game college career (.79 goals per game). Gabe Perreault, his long-time linemate, has assisted on 23 of them.

Boston College will complete a home-and-home, back-to-back against Northeastern on Saturday night.
