The Washington Capitals began working in their new black Screaming Eagle gear at Monday’s practice ahead of their first game in the alternate sweaters on November 6 against the Nashville Predators.

Instead of wearing their normal red and white jerseys during practice, the Capitals were split up in black and white for the session. Defenseman Rasmus Sandin was one of the players who wore a black practice sweater.

Not only did the skaters work in their new helmets, hockey pants, and gloves, but goaltenders Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren also donned their new Screagle-inspired masks, pads, and gloves and debuted new sticks.

Thompson’s full goalie gear design is especially well done. His electric mask, painted by Dave Fried of Friedesigns, is an homage to former NHL goaltender Mikka Kiprusoff, Thompson’s favorite growing up in Calgary.

Fried combined the Screaming Eagle logo with flaming skulls on the predominantly black-colored mask, including orange and blue flames along with metallic bronze details. The chin features LT, Thompson’s nickname. The backplate features the team’s Capitol Dome logo.

Thompson’s new Bauer pads are sensational, too, utilizing white, blue, and bronze in curved lines to emulate the wings of the Screagle. The design flows into the blocker and catching glove.

RMNB’s Katie Adler captured photos from the skate.

Capitals players are likely looking forward to their first game in the alternate sweater. When the team polled 17 players, 14 chose the Screaming Eagle design as their favorite in team history.

RMNB is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHLPA, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
