Logan Thompson was not on the ice at Capital One Arena Monday for the team’s first practice since they played their final preseason game — a 2-0 win over the Boston Bruins.
The Capitals said Thompson was not participating for “personal/family reasons” per RMNB’s Katie Adler.

Thompson played in two games for Washington in the preseason, going 2-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
The 27-year-old netminder was acquired by Washington at the 2024 NHL Draft from the Vegas Golden Knights for two draft picks. The goalie previously had stops in the organization with the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays and as a Development Camp attendee.
Washington waived goaltender Hunter Shepard on Sunday, leaving Charlie Lindgren as the only active goalie on the ice. At 2 pm, the Capitals will find out if they can send Shepard to the AHL’s Hershey Bears or if another team has claimed him.
Head coach Spencer Carbery has his team practicing at their game rink on Monday and Tuesday to help break up the week before their opening game against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, October 12. Washington regularly practices at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia.
