ARLINGTON, VA — With training camp just over two weeks away, Nic Dowd became one of the newest participants in the Capitals’ informal skates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
Dowd joined former Capital Joe Snively, who was wearing a Detroit Red Wings jersey, and prospect Zac Funk among the fresh faces at the rink on Tuesday.
Players capped off the hour-long session with skating work, taking laps in groups after finishing their drills.
Dowd is back in DC after spending his offseason in Minnesota, where he briefly played alongside Capitals prospect Ryan Chesley on Team Element in Da Beauty League. The fourth-line center is entering the final year of a three-year deal and could garner interest once again at the trade deadline.
Funk is set to play his first full season in the Capitals organization after signing an entry-level deal with the Capitals this spring. He led the CHL in goals in 2023-24 with 67 goals in 68 games, becoming a finalist for WHL Player of the Year and a member of both the WHL’s First All-Star Team and the CHL’s First All-Star Team.
Dowd, Funk, and Snively joined an ever-growing group of players at the skate: John Carlson, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Logan Thompson, Matt Roy, Jakub Vrana, Dylan Strome, Aliaksei Protas, Taylor Raddysh, and Bogdan Trineyev all participated Tuesday morning.
The Caps are set to hold their annual rookie camp from September 13-16 before kicking off training camp on September 19.
