Down 2-0 in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, the Edmonton Oilers now have even more motivation to win the franchise’s first championship in 34 years.

McDonald’s Canada announced on social media that it will rename its Edmonton franchise “McDavid’s” if the Oilers can beat the Florida Panthers.

“ok @cmcdavid97 how about this… if you bring the cup back to Canada we’ll turn an Edmonton McD’s into a McDavid’s. Deal? 🤝”

McDavid has not yet commented on the offer, but if you ask me personally, I’m lovin’ it.

Oilers fans were all in on the idea — with one even saying they would travel 2,300 miles to visit McDavid’s.

Another suggested renaming the Big Mac at the restaurant to the Big MAConnor.

The tweet is even bringing together hockey foes, with one Calgary Flames fan saying, “I’m from Calgary and if you do this I don’t care about our rivalry.. I’ll be there!!”

This is not the first time a restaurant has offered up name alteration as a way to encourage the Oilers. During their 2023 playoff run, a popular pizza chain changed one of their store names from “Boston Pizza” to “Kostin Pizza” to pay tribute to Oilers forward Klim Kostin.

The Boston Pizza media team requested 5k likes on the original, but ended up with 7.8k likes in favor of the name change.

Perhaps the smell of a sweet salty french fry will propel the Oilers to their first Stanley Cup in over three decades.

McDonalds has done promotions with other NHL teams such as the McNugget Minute with the Capitals where if a Caps player scores in the final minute of any period, fans get free nugs. The food chain has also done work with the Vegas Golden Knights and even was the NHL’s “quick-service” food partner from 2009-2012.

RMNB is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHLPA, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
