The Washington Capitals will kick off their first round playoff series against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Puck drop will be at 3 pm.

The Capitals announced the news on social media.

The schedule for the rest of the Capitals-Rangers’ series is not yet set.

Per NHL PR, the other Eastern Conference Game Ones are:

  • New York Islanders at Carolina Hurricanes, Saturday 5 pm
  • Toronto Maple Leafs at Boston Bruins, Saturday 8 pm
  • Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers, Sunday 12:30 pm

With Western Conference playoff matchups still to be determined by regular season games, the NHL’s full playoff schedule will be announced later.

The Capitals will be heavy underdogs in their first round series. The Rangers are the President’s Trophy winners as the league’s best team, while the Capitals have the fewest standings points of any club who made the playoffs.

The Rangers will have home ice in the series.
