Alex Ovechkin notched his 170th career multi-goal game in the Washington Capitals’ 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames, Monday. The victory catapulted Washington over the Detroit Red Wings for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference with 15 games remaining in the season.

After scoring his 842nd and 843rd career goals, Ovechkin became the first player of all-time to notch 19-consecutive 20-goal seasons, beginning from the start of a player’s career.

Ovechkin’s first goal, his 20th of the season, stood up as the game-winner, marking his 128th ever.

Ovechkin first dented the twine 5:58 into the second period. Stationed in front of the net on a power play, The Great Eight redirected a smart pass from Max Pacioretty past Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf.

Ovechkin joins Gordie Howe (22) and Brendan Shanahan (19) as the only players to register 19 consecutive 20-goal seasons.

The Capitals’ captain added his second of the night on the team’s next power play 3:18 later, rocketing an Ovi shot from the Ovi spot past Wolf.
