Don’t look now, but Alex Ovechkin is heating up.
Ovechkin found the back of the net on a late first-period power play. Set up in his office, Ovechkin fired a one-timer from the left circle past Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky for career goal number 833.
The Capitals’ captain has goals in three-straight game for his longest streak of the 2023-24 season.
The goal came at 16:38 of the first period. Rasmus Sandin, playing in his 200th career game, got the primary assist while Connor McMichael got the second apple.
Ovechkin (833) now trails Wayne Gretzky (894) by 61 for a share of the NHL’s all-time goals record.

The tally was the 16th time Ovechkin has scored on the Vezina Trophy-winning Bobrovsky in his career.
After a slow first half of the season, Ovechkin has now put up 13 points (5g, 8a) in his last 13 games.
