The Washington Capitals extended their affiliation agreement with the ECHL South Carolina Stingrays for another three years in July.

And now the Stingrays have announced a new look that will make them look even more like the sons of their metaphorical hockey dads.

Wednesday, the Stingrays shelved their navy blue sweaters and debuted a new red jersey that is nearly identical to the Capitals home jerseys. It features the same stripes, the same fonts, and the same colors.

The new jersey will be worn as the Stingrays’ dark uniform on a permanent basis beginning in the 2020-21 season.

“A few years ago, we incorporated a red jersey during the 2016-17 season that was very similar to what the Capitals wear,” Stingrays President Rob Concannon said. “We received a great response from our fans, our season ticket holders and our players. Last year we discussed doing something similar for the upcoming season and we reached out to the Capitals. We are thrilled with how the jersey came out and are very proud of our affiliation. Both our white and red jerseys now incorporate a Lowcountry feel while aligning ourselves with Capitals organization.”

The jersey does have some differences that are inspired by the state. The center of the collar will feature the palmetto palm tree and crescent moon from the South Carolina state flag. This will be on both primary jerseys this season.

The shoulder patch features an illustration of the Cooper River Bridge.

The new red jersey is available for purchase through the Stingrays’ online store in both adult and youth sizes.
