A unique two-day Alex Ovechkin experience raised nearly $40,000 for charities including Meals on Wheels, No Kid Hungry, America’s Food Fund, World Central Kitchen, and Feeding America.
Last month, Ovechkin joined other famous athletes and celebrities and took the All-In Challenge to raise money for those most in need during the coronavirus pandemic. Ovechkin auctioned off a 30-minute one-timer lesson from his office after practice, four-tickets to a Capitals game the next day, an autographed game-used stick, autographed game-used gloves, postgame locker room access, and a two-night hotel stay.
The auction ended Friday night and after 29 bids, the experience was won with a $38,000 bid (or the price of a Tesla Model 3).
Here’s how the experience and prize package was summed up by Fanatics:
Alex Ovechkin’s one-timer was deemed so dangerous that the District of Columbia forced him to register his hockey stick as a certified weapon. OK, not really, but the shot from Ovi’s office is as deadly as they come, and he’s ready to share the secret to his success. Ovechkin is offering one lucky fan the chance to meet him on the ice after a Washington Capitals practice for a 30-minute session where you’ll learn to shoot one-timers just like Ovi. Now if the team doesn’t slip you an NHL contract on the spot after seeing your talents, the winner does get two tickets to the next day’s Capitals game. Your squad will get post-game locker room access to meet Ovi and the boys and take home his game-used autographed stick and gloves as well. The Russian machine is going ALL IN, so don’t miss your chance to take up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. 100% of the money raised through this Game/Auction will go directly to Feeding America, Meals On Wheels, World Central Kitchen and No Kid Hungry.
