The Washington Capitals squashed the virtual Detroit Red Wings 6-1 on Saturday.
After the game, Nic Dowd, wearing an Ovi 700 hat, did an interview and explained the Capitals’ success. (Please note, the sun is clearly still out at his house so this interview was conducted before the game aired.)
“Digi hammer and Digi Orpik are the backbone of this team.,” Dowd said. “Obviously, he’s been a big part of the organization and they kept him around for good reason. We play for guys like that.”
Dowd also added that his performance in the game and his role as an analyst during intermission will be brought up during his next contract negotiation. “In order to stay in this league, you have to be good at a lot of different things,” he joked.

You guys are buzzing. Is it just easy to score right now?
Nic Dowd: “Yeah. I’d say the digi players put in a lot of hard work this season and it’s good to finally see guys rewarded. I’d basically say, coming from guys last year like Brooks Orpik, you don’t see it behind the scenes, but Digi Orpik is coming into the locker room. He’s letting the guys know they’re playing well. Obviously, he’s been a big part of the organization and they kept him around for good reason. We play for guys like that.”
He’s letting you guys know how to play in the locker room?
Nic Dowd: “Digi hammer and Digi Orpik are the backbone of this team.”
Not only did you play in the game, but you also joined the telecast during intermission as an analyst.
Nic Dowd: “In order to stay in this league, you have to be good at a lot of different things. When players get to the NHL, a lot of people are top players and figure out a way to stay in the league. Playing the game and then being in-person while you’re playing and also changing out of your gear and into a suit very quickly, is what teams look for and what I’ll be pushing for in the next contract negotiations.”
During the interview, Louie Dowd, Nic’s newborn son, was sleeping on his dad’s lap.
