The Washington Capitals followed up their great performance in Pittsburgh with the opposite of that in Buffalo. They were able to salvage a loser point out of the festivities, but ultimately fell in the shootout 3-2 to the Sabres.
The Caps out-shot the Sabres 35 to 26 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 50 to 34.

- The Caps decided to wait until the third period to actually start playing in this game and that’s really just unacceptable. The Sabres are terrible and dropping any points to them at this time of the season in the Metro Division is ridiculous. Things are still very bad, y’all.
- Alex Ovechkin got on the board with his 48th of the season, tying him for first in the Rocket race.
- The Flyers can take sole possession of first in the division with a win tonight.
Braden Holtby stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced, and another 5 of 7 in the shootout. Holtby has earned a point in six of his last seven games (4-1-2).
