The Washington Capitals visited the Land of 10,000 Lakes and took down the Wild in a very spirited affair, 4-3.

The Wild out-shot the Caps 40 to 30 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 51 to 45.

• The Caps really settled the game down after that explosive first period and I thought took control of five-on-five play from then on. I was very happy with the overall effort and think this performance and their recent ones against the Winnipeg Jets should definitely be building blocks moving further into March.
• Alex Ovechkin slammed two pucks home and assisted on Tom Wilson‘s goal for a three point night. Ovi averages more goals per game against Minnesota (16 goals in 17 games) than any other NHL franchise.
• Getting his first Capitals point on Ovechkin’s second goal was Ilya Kovalchuk who I thought had another great game in a Caps sweater.

• Braden Holtby stopped 37 of the 40 Wild shots he faced. Holts has now won three in a row and is playing the best hockey of his season right now.
• Great night for Carl Hagelin in what was his 600th career NHL game. Carl grabbed an assist on Richard Panik‘s goal, fired five shot attempts, and had three individual scoring chances.
