There’s something about Alex Ovechkin that makes him come alive in big moments.
Tuesday, after being honored on the ice for scoring 700 goals, Ovechkin scored his 701st career goal in his first shift of the game.
Ovechkin scored after some great work by a new-look first line featuring Evgeny Kuznetsov. After taking a twister pass from Kuzy, Ovechkin immediately fired a shot on net from near the right circle. Jets goaltender Laurent Brossoit made the initial stop, but Ovi connected with the rebound in mid-air to score his 43rd goal of the season.

The goal came 1:55 into the game to give the Caps an early 1-0 lead.
On the tally, Laurent Brossoit became the 142nd different goaltender Ovechkin has victimized in his NHL career.
