The Washington Capitals are in a funk right now. That funk doesn’t look like it’s going away anytime soon as they dropped a Monday evening decision to the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2.
The Knights out-shot the Caps 26 to 26, but were out-attempted at five-on-five 48 to 39.

- The Caps continued their trend of playing sloppy, uninterested hockey for the first two periods and then turning it on late to try and make a comeback. You aren’t going to win many games like that and they didn’t win this one. I’m genuinely curious what everyone thinks the issue might be, because I cant pinpoint one specific thing. Leave your thoughts in the comments.
- Braden Holtby has continued to play well even though the dudes in front of him aren’t right now. He’s got a 93.3-percent save percentage over his last four appearances and a goals against average that is only a few ticks above two.
- Jakub Vrana set a new career high in points (49) with his two assists on both of TJ Oshie’s goals. I wish the cap had actually gone up as much as we thought it was and the Caps had locked him up longterm.

- TJ Oshie is on pace to score over 30 goals again in a season. This time…no latex suit bet is on the line.
- It has now been five games without a goal for Alex Ovechkin. This is the first time all season that he’s gone without a goal in more than three straight games. Very bad timing.
- As the Caps slump, the prices for rentals and other deadline acquisitions skyrocket. Have to wonder if this recent stretch of games makes the very cash strapped Caps rethink their plans at all.
