At 8:04 AM Tuesday morning, the Washington Capitals announced that Nicklas Backstrom signed a five-year extension worth $9.1 million.
An hour and 11 minutes later, the Capitals posted a video of Backstrom, serving as his own agent, and general manager Brian MacLellan signing the historic new deal.

The video shows a disheveled Backstrom, wearing a grey Capitals hoodie, and MacLellan, rocking a black suit, sitting together in a small room, likely at Capital One Arena. A picture of John Carlson and Michal Kempny celebrating a goal hangs on the wall, while several empty clothes hangers hang in the background. Backstrom first signs three different areas on the contract. After he completes his parts, MacLellan inks his name once.
Once the process was completed, the two smile and shake hands.

The deal will keep Backstrom in Washington DC until the summer of 2025.
