Ilya Samsonov becomes first goalie in franchise history to win 12 of his first 14 starts

Ilya Samsonov accomplished another first in his most recent Capitals’ victory.

The rookie goaltender won for the 12th time. He’s the first goalie in Capitals history to record 12 wins within his first 14 starts.

Samsonov stopped 26 of 27 shots for a sparkling .963 save percentage. In a game where two players had multi-goal games, Samsonov ended up being the third star of the night.

Sammy is now one win away from matching Bob Mason for the longest win streak in Capitals history as a rookie.

On the season, the Russian goaltender is 12-2-1 with a 2.25 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.

Last week, after Samsonov became the first NHL rookie goalie ever to win his first eight career road games in a single season, Evgeny Kuznetsov had a message for reporters.

“I think you guys should talk more about how Sammy’s good,” Kuznetsov said. “I don’t even heard one word how good he is right?”

Are we doing this right, Kuzy?
