Evgeny Kuznetsov decided to get fancy during a late second-period breakaway attempt. It ultimately cost the Capitals.
With the Capitals down 3-2, Kuzy tried to score a highlight-reel goal where he shot the puck between his skates on Martin Jones.
This is only an okay breakaway attempt if you score or you try it when you’re up 5-2 (not down 3-2) pic.twitter.com/nSsed76Q01

Kuznetsov overskated the puck and did not get a shot off.

While I admire Kuznetsov’s confidence to take this shot and his overall joy for the game, this type of breakaway attempt is too risky at this point in the game. If you don’t score, it looks bad. On top of that, Martin Jones is generally regarded as one of the worst starting goaltenders in the league. So you should just want to get a shot off in general.
That’s just my two cents though. What do you think of Kuzy’s breakaway attempt?
