Connor McMichael scores game-winning goal in Team Canada’s 6-1 win over Slovakia

Connor McMichael scored his second goal of the World Junior Championship on Thursday.

The Capitals 2019 first-round pick dented the twine in the second period to give Canada a 2-0 lead. The goal would end up being the game-winner in Team Canada’s 6-1 quarterfinal win over Slovakia.

McMichael scored on a two-on-one break. The 18-year-old forward sniped a shot far-side past Slovak goaltender Samuel Hlavaj as he cradled the puck behind his body.

After playing on the first line in Canada’s 4-1 victory over Germany, McMichael returned to the fourth line and skated on the right wing with Canada star Alexis Lafrenière back in the lineup. McMichael had five shots in 15:01 of ice time.

Lafrenière had a huge game in his return from injury. The future NHL superstar had a goal and an assist, and a nifty move off the back of the net.

The World Junior Championship will re-seed teams after the quarterfinals are over.
