The NHL Network named former Capitals forward Eric Fehr to its All Winter Classic Team on Wednesday along with Henrik Zetterberg, Vladimir Tarasenko, Duncan Keith, Kris Letang, and Henrik Lundqvist.
The segment was aired on the NHL Network’s pregame show before the 2020 Winter Classic between the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars.
Fehr is the Washington Capitals’ all-time leader in outdoor game goals afre scoring at both the 2011 and 2015 Winter Classics.
2011 Winter Classic
Goal 1
Fehr’s first goal came on Marc-Andre Fleury at Heinz Field in front of 68,111 fans. After MAF misplayed the puck behind the net, Marcus Johansson sent the puck to the slot, which Fehr slammed home into the yawning net
The second-period goal gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead.
Goal 2
The Winkler, Manitoba-native scored again midway through the third period on a breakaway. Fehr was sprung by Jason Chimera at center ice. The goal would stand as the game-winner.
2015 Winter Classic
Goal 3
Fehr’s final outdoor goal came during the 2015 Winter Classic at Nationals Park. Fehr took the puck from Brent Seabrook, after the Blackhawks defenseman fumbled the puck at the blue line, and skated in on a breakaway against Corey Crawford. Fehr deked backhand before scoring on his forehand. The Capitals crowd went wild.
The 2016 Stanley Cup champion currently plays for the NLA’s Genève-Servette HC in Switzerland and recently won the Spengler Cup for Team Canada.
