Merry Capsmas everyone! With Christmas two days away, the Washington Capitals have released their annual holiday video.
And it’s… definitely a thing you need to watch.
This year, the video moves away from the Wow That’s What I Call Music formula, which the Capitals did two years consecutively.
Inspired by their adoption of Captain, the Capitals recreated the classroom instruments version of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” (which also included performances by The Tonight’s Show’s Jimmy Fallon and The Roots).
Captain, wearing reindeer antlers, “performs” a stirring rendition of the song (with an animated mouth) while a group of Capitals players including Alex Ovechkin, Braden Holtby, Tom Wilson, John Carlson, Jakub Vrana, Lars Eller, and Carl Hagelin “play instruments” in ugly sweaters.
Nic Dowd and Garnet Hathaway also come up from under the camera to provide frightening backup vocals.
Well done, boys. Just like the movie “Cats”, this is so bad it’s good.
Happy holidays!
