Nick Jensen got in his first career fight as a Washington Capital on Friday against the New Jersey Devils. Jensen dropped his gloves with annoying, sandpaper-y forward Miles Wood.
On a night where the Capitals dominated everywhere on the scoreboard and scoresheet, Jensen’s fight was the lone low light – though he does get major props for fighting in the first place.

The bout lasted approximately one second as Jensen was immediately decleated off the ice and taken down by Wood.

The fight was so eventless and face-punch-less, NBC Sports Washington’s Craig Laughlin believed that the two players should have only received double minors for roughing instead of five-minute majors for fighting.

The officials did not agree and each player sat in the box for five.
The fight could potentially be traced back to a crosscheck Garnet Hathaway delivered to the Devils earlier in the game. Later, Wood combined with Wayne Simmonds to get his comeuppance on Hathaway.

Jensen likely was standing up for his Hathaway in the bout, which again, is admirable.
To put the bout in historical context, Jensen’s fight is arguably worse than Alex Semin’s bongos session with Marc Staal because at least Semin threw multiple punches – albeit very weak.
The fight was Jensen’s third ever in the NHL and tenth overall while Wood has dropped the gloves 11 times in the NHL.
