Hershey Bears prospect Logan Thompson gets in goalie fight during ECHL game

Hershey Bears prospect Logan Thompson dropped the gloves against Michael McNiven Sunday night during an ECHL game between the South Carolina Stingrays and Jacksonville Icemen.

The two goalies respectfully took off their goalie masks, blockers, and gloves and angrily tried to punch the other in the face.

McNiven threw several wild haymakers which Thompson ducked under. Thompson threw several jobs and appears to have connected on a punch before wrestling McNiven to the ice.

Both players got game misconducts for a secondary altercation.

Thompson was signed by the Hershey Bears to a one-year AHL contract last May. Thompson’s amateur hockey career includes a 2016 Western Hockey League (WHL) Championship with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He most recently an 18-6-0 record at Brock University in Ontario.

This isn’t the first time a Capitals goalie has thrown hands in a hockey game. Apparently, it’s a rite of passage in this organization.

In 2017, Pheonix Copley fought Jordan Binnington, who won a Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues last season.

Meanwhile in 2013, Braden Holtby was forced to fight Ray Emery during a Capitals’ blowout win.
