Goalie fight! Pheonix Copley fights Jordan Binnington in Hershey Bears game

Hershey Bears goaltender Pheonix Copley fought the Providence Bruins’ Jordan Binnington after a scuffle in the second period of tonight’s game at Giant Center.

Down 4-0 early in the second, Bears forward Garrett Mitchell crushed the Bruins’ Kenny Agostino into the boards, igniting a fracas. After that quickly burned out, Copley and Binnington squared off.

The goalie fight started after an intense discussion at center ice. After coming to an agreement, Copley and Binnington decided that they did indeed want to punch each other in the face. Both players spent a long period of time taking off their gear. Copley even did some calisthenics while getting warmed up.

After about 15 seconds, it was finally time to dance. While no punches were landed in the face, Copley got the best of the fight, landing multiple blows to the back of Agostino’s back and chest.

Eventually the two goaltenders would tire and be separated by officials. Both would be tossed.

Vitek Vanecek would take Copley’s place in net.

52 total penalty minutes in total were doled out by the officials.
