The Washington Capitals continued their ownage of the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, taking down the other Eastern Conference powerhouse by a score of 3-2.
The Bruins out-shot the Caps 32-25, but were out-attempted at five-on-five 46 to 39.

- Overall that’s a pretty perfect effort for the Caps outside of their disciplinary issues. At five-on-five they completely shut down what is usually an incredibly potent Bruins offense. The third period was particularly good as any comeback attempts were seemingly stymied in neutral or at the Caps blueline.
- A big part of this win is definitely on the penalty kill though. The Bruins got nada in five attempts on the man advantage. With Carl Hagelin in the lineup this season, the Caps have killed off 69 of 78 opposition opportunities. That is good for 88.5-percent and would be tops in the NHL (the Caps currently sit at 85.3-percent, second in the NHL).
- That guy again. John Carlson reached the 45 point threshold in this game via the 14th multi point effort of his season.
John Carlson (33 GP) required the fewest games by a defenseman to record his 45th point of a season since Al MacInnis in 1990-91 (32 GP w/ CGY). #NHLStats pic.twitter.com/Up1DguC8jf

- The Caps are now 16-1 in their last 17 games against the Bruins. That is total, complete, and utter dominance.
- In 33 games now, the Caps have reached the 50 point mark in the standings. That is the second quickest a team in franchise history has done so, only behind the 2015-16 team’s 32 games.
- Big night obviously from TJ Oshie with two great goals. The first line was much better in Nicklas Backstrom‘s second game back from injury. Jonas Siegenthaler was basically perfect at five-on-five. Jakub Vrana and Evgeny Kuznetsov keep racking up points. The fourth line performed to their usual great standards again. Braden Holtby is absolutely rolling. Things are going well.
