Beck Malenstyn suspended three games by the AHL for elbowing

Capitals prospect Beck Malenstyn has been suspended three games by the AHL for an incident that occurred during the Hershey Bears’ December 6 game against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Malenstyn elbowed Mark Friedman in the jaw early in the third period. Woozy and bloodied, Friedman did not return to the game. Malenstyn was given a two-minute minor.

Bob Rotruck, Lehigh’s radio broadcaster, called the play “scary.”

Inside AHL Hockey’s Tony Androckitis reported that the Phantoms sent video of the play to the AHL for review.

Sunday, the AHL ruled that Malenstyn will be suspended three games.

Malenstyn will miss Hershey’s games tonight (Dec. 8) vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Dec. 14 vs. Bridgeport, and Dec. 15 vs. Lehigh Valley.
