Joe Thornton drops goaltender Petr Mrazek with a single punch

Joe Thornton must still be reeling from Tom Wilson’s trash talk victory several nights ago because the 40-year-old was extra irritable during the Sharks’ game Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

During a second period fracas, Thorton sent Canes goaltender Petr Mrazek to the ice with a straight right.

After Mrazek froze the puck, Thornton went for an extra poke. Mrazek too exception and wildly swung his stick at the future Hall of Famer. As he skated over to have words with Thornton, WHAM! down he goes.

Daaang, Jumbo. That’s the fastest I’ve seen a Hurricanes player fall since Alex Ovechkin knocked out Andrei Svechnikov.

Thornton received four minutes of penalties on the play including a roughing and slashing minors while Mrazek got two minutes for slashing.

The Hurricanes did not score on the ensuing powerplay. Mrazek stayed in the game.
