Jakub Vrana has the third-most even-strength goals in the NHL

The NHL-leading Washington Capitals have 36 standings points, seven more than any other team, and have scored 89 goals this season, 15 more than the next closest organization.

Part of what is fueling that success is the ridiculous amount of even-strength goals the Capitals have scored this season. The Capitals have lit the lamp a league-leading 65 times at even-strength, scoring nearly three even-strength goals per game.

Jakub Vrana leads the Capitals with 10 even-strength goals. He scored again at 5-on-5 Monday against the Anaheim Ducks.

Vrana scored after an Alex Ovechkin pass was intercepted by a Ducks defender. A pinching in Radko Gudas forced a turnover and the puck went right to Vrana who deposited the puck into the net past John Gibson.

It was Vrana’s first goal since his November 3 hat trick.

The tally put Vrana in some elite company around the NHL. Vrana is now tied with Auston Matthews for third place in the NHL with the 10 even-strength tallies. He trails second-place Brad Marchand by 1.

Also of interest to Capitals fans, Washington is the only team to have five different players in the top 35 in the NHL with even-strength goals including Vrana (10g, 4th), Ovechkin (8g, 13th), Kuznetsov (8g, 14th), Tom Wilson (7g, 24th), and John Carlson (6g, 35th).

Vrana is on pace to score 36 goals and 64 points — both would be career highs.
