Longtime Wheel of Fortune host and Caps season ticket holder, Pat Sajak, recovering from emergency surgery

Thursday’s taping of Wheel of Fortune was canceled after longtime host Pat Sajak had to undergo emergency surgery. The news was first reported by People Magazine.

The 73-year-old Sajak had a blocked intestine, which had to be operated on immediately.

“The Wheel of Fortune taping on Thursday was canceled because host Pat Sajak underwent successful emergency surgery to correct a blocked intestine,” the show posted on social media. “He is resting comfortably and looking forward to getting back to work. Taping resumed today as scheduled, and Vanna White has stepped in a host.”

Sajak is expected to make a full recovery.

The longtime Capitals’ season-ticket holder has homes on each coast – one in Severna Park, MD and another in Los Angeles, California. Sajak infrequently shows up to both Caps and Kings games and Capitals special events. During the 2018 Stanley Cup Final, Sajak announced the starting lineups between the Capitals and Golden Knights.

Sajak has two children, a son Patrick, 29, and a daughter Maggie, 25. He’s been married to Lesly Sajak, a photographer, since 1989.
