The Washington Capitals had a five game win streak within their grasps, but could not hold on for the final two minutes of regulation against the Edmonton Oilers. The 4-3 loss in overtime is the first loss for the Caps on this long road trip.
The Oilers out-shot the Caps 40 to 28 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 58 to 56.

- The Caps were not good enough over the full 60 for me. The Oilers just seemed faster and wanted the win more overall. The Caps ended up down 15 to 5 in the high danger chance category at five-on-five. Not good. Braden Holtby probably kept this a lot closer than it could have been.
- Congrats to John Carlson for becoming only the third defenseman in Caps history to play 700 games with the club!
- The Capitals have outscored their opponents 20 to 6 in second periods this season, and they’ve scored a goal in every second period this season. Now if they could start doing this more in third periods, that’d be great.
John Carlson of the @Capitals collected an assist to extend his point streak to nine games and boost his League-leading totals to 5-16—21 this season (12 GP).

- Alex Ovechkin‘s second goal of the evening came on the power play and was the 250th of his career. He is only the fourth player in NHL history to reach that total. Ovi had nine shots in total in the game.
- Ovi and Carlson are now both on nine game point streaks. Tom Wilson is on a three game point streak of his own.
Ovechkin also passes Hull for 3rd in multi-goal games (134) before age 35 behind only Wayne Gretzky (182) & Mario Lemieux (140). He also passes Marcel Dionne's 665 career goals for the 3rd most within a player's first 15 seasons behind Gretzky (803) + Lemieux (682) https://t.co/1CvsH5KOWu
