The Washington Capitals have re-assigned Martin Fehervary to the AHL Hershey Bears.

Fehervary was recalled as insurance for Jonas Siegenthaler after the Swiss defenseman crashed into Richard Panik during the third period of the Caps-Leafs game, Wednesday. Siegenthaler injured his shoulder in the collision but was able to play Friday against the New York Rangers.

Panik was placed on long term injured reserve.

Fehervary re-joins a Hershey Bears team that has won three of its last four games.

More from the Capitals:

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have re-assigned defenseman Martin Fehervary to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Fehervary, 20, appeared in three games with the Capitals this year. The 6’2”, 200-pound rookie defenseman averaged 14:29 TOI per game and recorded a 54.72 shot attempt percentage (29 shot attempts for, 24 against) at five-on-five.

Fehervary, who was selected with the Capitals’ second round pick, 46th overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft, made his NHL debut on Oct. 2 against the St. Louis Blues and became the first player selected outside of the first round to make his NHL debut before the age of 20 since Samuel Girard (Nashville, selected in the second round, 47th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft) on Oct. 10, 2017. The Bratislava, Slovakia, native is one of 11 defensemen in franchise history to make his NHL debut before the age of 20.

In three games with Hershey this season, Fehervary has one goal.
