The Dallas Stars made the trip east to take on your Washington Capitals for the first time this season. Tyler Seguin’s bunch has had a rough start to the year, dropping games to the Bruins, Blues, and Red Wings. Could they turn it around in DC?

Evgeny Kuznetsov was your first goal scorer of the night, announcing his return in his first period of the season. Roope Hintz tied things at one early in the second period. John Carlson squeezed one through Ben Bishop to give the Caps a lead again.

Nick Caamano with the third period winner. Nicklas Backstrom tied it with the netminder pulled. Tyler Seguin overtime winner.

    Stars beat Caps 4-3.

    • The wizard of Chelyabinsk is back. It took Evgeny Kuznetsov just five minutes to open his 2019-20 goal scoring account with a nasty backhand to the roof over Ben Bishop. Welcome back, Kuzy.
    • That first period overall was utterly dominant from the Caps. Despite not capitalizing on more than a few chances to extend their lead, all even strength play flowed through the home team.
    • The first power play opportunity with number 92 back in the lineup looked better than all of their opportunities from the game against Carolina. The team had their best portion of play, including a couple high danger chanes after a controlled entry from the Russian center. More controlled entries, please.

    • Please go read and look at the best post of all time on RMNB, by the wonderful Cara Bahniuk. All you need to know is doggos and puppies.
    • Second period was more even. Didn’t love the start from the Caps and a brutal cross ice turnover from Lars Eller saw the Stars convert on the following rush up ice.
    • Felt like Tyler Lewington struggled to me. Caps missed Martin Fehervary in his spot.

    • Third period was bad for the second game in a row. Caps got burned by not extending their lead in the first forty minutes.
    • Caps power play now 0-for-11 in their last two games. Dropping standings points because of it. Hey, Blaine?
    • The Caps play with their goalie pulled was better than any of their power play attempts this season.

Thursday night in Nashville. No, not a new country song, it’s the next Capitals fixture you can look forward to.
