Tom Wilson is back in DC, joins Capitals informal skate

The man rocket has officially landed back at his home base.

The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir reported this Thursday morning that Tom Wilson returned to MedStar Capitals Iceplex and joined the team’s informal skates for the first time ahead of the 2019-20 season. The first-line right wing recently competed in a BioSteel training camp run by Matt Nichol in Tom’s native Toronto. Dozens of NHL players and prospects participate every summer.

Radko Gudas, who was acquired via trade over the summer, joined the skate as well as fellow newcomers Richard Panik, Garnet Hathaway, and Brendan Leipsic. Leipsic recently attended his first Washington Nationals game at Nats Park.

Christian Djoos made his first appearance in Arlington too.

But the big-ticket item is Wilson who is looking to build off a career year where he scored 22 goals and tallied 40 points in 63 games despite a lengthy suspension to start the season. As Wilson continues to thrive and put down more roots in DC, his longtime girlfriend, Canadian volleyball player Taylor Pischke, was accepted into The George Washington University’s Masters of Business program.

So the month of September is a big month for both members of the power couple.

Welcome back to DC, y’all. And good luck!
