The NHLPA Rookie Showcase is coming to Washington DC. The NHLPA announced that 28 top NHL prospects will participate in the event slated to be held Sunday, August 25 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
The event allows Upper Deck to capture photos and other multimedia for the prospect’s first rookie cards.
The news was first reported by Sportsology.
2019 first-overall pick Jack Hughes will headline the event and be joined in the nation’s capital by his brother Quinn Hughes, a prospect on the Vancouver Canucks. Washington Capitals 2018 first-round pick Alexander Alexeyev will be the team’s lone representative. Other top prospects scheduled to attend include the Blackhawks’ Kirby Dach, the third overall pick in the 2019 Draft, and New York Islanders’ top prospect Oliver Wahlstrom.
In years past, Capitals prospects such as Ilya Samsonov, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Andre Burakovsky, and Tom Wilson have participated.
Last year’s Rookie Showcase was held in Toronto, Canada.
The event is not expected to be open to the public.
