Capitals goaltender Ilya Samsonov is back from Russia a month before the start of training camp.
The Capitals 2015 first-round pick posted to his Instagram Story on Friday, visiting Great Falls with his wife Maria.
Samsonov first arrived back stateside earlier in the week, first landing in New York.
Samsonov got married a month ago in his hometown of Magnitogorsk. Several former and Capitals teammates were there for the big day, including Russian defenseman Alexander Alexeyev, who is slated to start the season with Hershey.
This season could end up being huge for both Samsonov and the trajectory of Capitals goaltending for many years to come. Braden Holtby, the greatest goaltender in Caps history, is going into the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent in July. Sergei Bobrovsky and Andrei Vasilevskiy, two of Holtby’s peers, received contracts with yearly values of $10 million and $9.5 million respectively, which could push Holtby out of the team’s price range.
